The Carnival of Barranquilla, declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO in 2003, is Colombia's most iconic festivity. It is celebrated annually during the first quarter of the year and involves a series of street parties with dancing and dance routines,
comparsas, and parades. About 500 folklore groups participate in this celebration, as well as international artists, and all
Barranquilleros. You don't want to miss the traditional Batalla de Flores (the flower battle), the reading of the
bando (proclamation), and the crowning of the Carnival Queen. At the Carnival of Barranquilla,
quien lo vive es quien lo goza!
